Welcome to the Wayland High School Class of 1996 list server!
+++Please save this introductory message so you unsubscribe if you wish!!!
What is a list server?
A list server is a special address that forwards all mail sent to
it to a large group of people.
What are the benefits?
If you want to send mail to a group of people, you only have to
remember one email address. It fosters group discussion, and will
allow the class to keep in touch better.
What are the problems?
I can think of two problems - first, you might get what you
consider "junk mail" - mail that is not of interest to you.
Second, a message to a group of 50 or 100 people is not as
personal as a message to a friend.
Are there any rules?
Well, not "rules" per se, but guidelines.
- The list membership is limited to members of the Wayland High
School Class of 1996. I can't think of any reason for an
exception. If anyone (parent, teacher, friend) wants to send
something to the list, please send it to w hs1996-owner@acm.jhu.edu,
and I will forward it to the list if it is appropriate.
- Chain letters/"Forwards" - I know everyone either loves them or
hates them. Feel free to send messages of that type to the list. That
way, the entire class will get it at once, and we wont get multiple
copies of the same forward. Keep in mind that many true "Chain
letters", especially ones involving money in any way are
considered wire fraud by the US Government, and many of the
forwards are some of the oldest hoaxes on the internet (Hint:
"Good Times" is not a virus)
- These guidelines are subject to change based on class comments.
That means - email me and tell me what you think!

IMPORTANT: Please keep the following in mind - when you send mail to
whs1996@acm.jhu.edu, you are sending mail to EVERYONE who signs up, not
just your friends. We all would like to know how you are doing, but not
your private "best-friend" secrets.
